What is Sculpitti
Sculpitti is the three-dimensional counterpart of Graffiti. Sculpitti is the name eike waltz gave to his sculpture made to convey a statement or message, but which may over time may be re-configured to convey a different statement or message.
The first Sculpitti was created in 1962 with the self dissolving candle holders by eike waltz (in the process of burning down the candle, consequent parts of the candle holder become obsolete and finally there is no candle and no candle holder anymore. Only objects such as melted candle wax and candle holder parts remain to be reused perhaps in a different configuration). This was followed 1964 by the “symphony for an egg carton” and 1966 by “grand plié”. All these works were intended to be ephemeral, in effect, to burn themselves out.
Later Sculpitti retained its form as a means of reference, but lend its meaning to different issues. All sculptures created by eike waltz are “Sculpitti”.
